ANCYL Will Continue to Seek Malema's Vindication

ANCYL dumps Pule Mabe as treasurer

The ANC Youth League has removed treasurer general Pule Mabe from his position, amid calls for party intervention to reinstate Julius Malema.

“The comrades lost confidence in the treasurer general,” youth league deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi told reporters in Johannesburg.

“The NEC [national executive committee] resolved to release the [treasurer general] Pule Mabe from his duties.” The decision was made at the youth league NEC meeting held over two days at the weekend.

Mosenogi said Mabe had not been suspended from the league but was no longer the treasurer general or a member of the NEC.

“We have not suspended him ... He’s still a [youth league] member.”

The league called on ANC leaders to intervene in the national disciplinary committee of appeal’s (NDCA) decision to expel its leader Julius Malema and suspend secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, adding it would stop at nothing to have the three reinstated.

“The leaders of the ANCYL should be reinstated,” national working committee member Abner Mosase said in Johannesburg on Monday.

“If they [the ANC] do not reinstate them, we will not stop trying. We will continue using all our available internal mechanisms ... Every time they [the ANC] meet, we will be on their backs persuading them to listen to this logic.”

The youth league said it wanted a “political solution”.

‘Supreme logic’

“The NEC ... calls on the leadership of the ANC to decisively intervene and provide a political solution. We will continue to challenge the outcomes internally in the ANC until the national conference in December,” deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi said.

Asked if the league thought the motherbody would listen, Mosase said it was confident that “supreme logic and content” would prevail.

Mosenogi added the league was confident that ANC leaders would reinstate the three leaders.

“We are relying on the constitution of the ANC to resolve the matter,” she said.

League deputy president Ronald Lamola said the league was still in touch with Malema and that he, Magaqa and Shivambu remained disciplined members and supporters of the ANC.

“No one is defining themselves outside of the ANC. Nothing stops us from talking to these comrades.”

The league added Malema was respecting the NDCA’s decision and was not attending any league meetings, but remained their leader. — Sapa
